Bio Used Professionally

My name is Tanya Miller; I was born Tanya Lea Hershberger on 02 September 1974 to Perry and Linda Hershberger in Casper Wyoming. I would learn early on that there are no failures in life, rather just opportunities to try again and do better when my parents divorced when I was six years old. I have two brothers, and one sister…this is where I learned to appreciate even in loss when my father remarried my new mom, who brought with her, my sister Kari. My mom also remarried, and with this marriage I gained a brother as well. I lived with my father and new mom until graduation in 1992 and worked in the family business during this time.

In 1993 I married Brian Lee Brown (b. 1971) and served alongside him during his career in the military until 2012. During my marriage to Brian, we conceived four beautiful daughters: Brianna-Lea (b. 1994), FaitheMaree (b. 1996), Katheryhn Renee (d. 1996), and Dakhota-Rae (b. 1997). In 2015 our marriage ended.

In 2017, I married Timothy John Miller (b. 1965). We moved to our home in Laramie, Wyoming where we could be closer to my children. Our first granddaughter Inora Lyn was born 10 January 2020…we are very excited to get to meet her.

I received my first two associate degrees from Laramie County Community College in 2006 (graduated magna cum laude) in Political Science and Government Studies, and Public Administration and Policy, and a member of Phi Theta Kappa. I would go on to continue with my education in 2015 and graduated from Grand Canyon University in 2017 magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Justice Studies. Finally, I finished my Master of Science program in criminal justice with an emphasis in legal studies from Grand Canyon University and as a member of the National Honor Society in 2019.  Currently I am finishing my Masters of Arts degree in Human Service Counseling with an emphasis in Trauma.  While I do not believe I will do as well as I did in my previous education, I will finish with a 3.0 or better.

I was a stay-at-home mom until my children graduated from high school. I chose to home-school our daughters during this time. For a brief stint from 2005-2010 I worked as a public benefit advocate for the local hospital, and continued after 2010 consulting for medical clinics, as I could take my children with me. In 2015 I rejoined the work force, and quickly rose to the position of executive administrator/UW-AFROTC liaison for the United States Air Force ROTC program at the University of Wyoming and continues to work there today.

While raising my children I actively worked as a mentor with the Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) program, and as a key spouse in the military with the family readiness program.

I enjoy blogging, knitting, and exercising. Additionally, with my daughter Dakhota-Rae we have a photography business where we actively assist military, schools, and other large groups with preserving their memories.

When I complete my education in counseling with an emphasis in trauma it is my intent to find a position with the military serving as a victim’s advocate.  I would like to use the knowledge I gain in this course to be better equipped to assist those who do not have a voice acknowledge their own and help them use it.
